what it means to you. My Z is like an extension of my body, when its not running well i feel bad...This explains my constant state of depression as of the last year or so sigh... Obviously, if money is that tight you have to do what you have to do no matter what anyone says since eating is more important than the Z. You can always get back into it later. :) I guess it really depends on how much you actually enjoy your Z. If its your only hobby it doesn't sound like it would be healthy for you to get rid of it to be completely honest. As guys we need an outlet sometimes to get away and think; some drink, smoke, shoot up what-have-you lol but i like to drive fast :). It sounds like your wife is trying to be smart about finances which is awesome, and if she is that concerned and thrifty about spending she sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders especially in this day in age. Is there a deeper problem here? ie you are spending too much time with your Z and not her/your family? Although, If the main concern is money, isn't there anything that she can contribute or do to help the situation? Asking you to sell the one thing that brings you joy and escape is not very loving of her. If she really understood you then she would understand what the Z meant to you especially spending SOOOOO much time getting it to where you wanted (but i guess she would say it never ends, which is understandable). It comes back to how much do you really enjoy your Z... If you feel like you need that to get away then maybe drive it less or sell it and get something where you can still have fun but you also have money to put towards savings and moving....it wouldnt be a Z but thats ok, like you said you could get back into it down the road. I know that would suck but it might be a win win to sell and come back later. Its up to you man. There are many variables that play into it that could determine what you should do but that is what came to my mind. I hope everything works out for you. :)
